You must complete the required forms in the Financial Aid Office. Once you are enrolled in a program approved by the State Approving Agency, the VA Certifying Official will process your certification after the Drop/Add period and/or within 30 days of enrollment, per VA policy. It typically takes four to eight weeks to activate your VA educational benefits.

To apply for financial aid, you must complete the 2026–2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using your 2024 tax transcript, W-2 forms, and/or documentation of 2024 untaxed income, such as unemployment or Social Security income.

If needed, visit the Financial Aid Office at an Orange Technical College campus to pick up a 2026–2027 FAFSA worksheet to help gather your information. Then complete the 2026–2027 FAFSA online. All FAFSA submissions require appropriate signatures, which are provided using an FSA ID. You can create an FSA ID online.

Yes. You may use your own income if you meet certain criteria, such as:

• Having children for whom you provide 50% or more of their support
• Being married
• Being a ward of the court
• Having served in the military

If married, you must include your spouse’s income. Additional criteria may apply, so please visit the Financial Aid Office at any Orange Technical College campus for guidance.

Whether or not you live with your parents, if you are under 24 years old and do not meet other eligibility requirements, your parents must provide their income information on the FAFSA. This includes their 2024 tax transcript, W-2 forms, and/or documentation of 2024 untaxed income, such as unemployment or child-support income.

Both you and your parents must sign the FAFSA using an FSA ID. You can learn about creating and using an FSA ID.

The FAFSA is usually processed within about one week if submitted online with all required signatures.

Verification is a process used by the federal government, and sometimes by the school, to confirm the accuracy of the information you provided on your FAFSA. If selected, you must submit:

• Your 2024 IRS tax transcript with W-2 forms, if applicable
• Documentation of 2024 untaxed income, such as unemployment or Social Security income
• Your parent’s and/or spouse’s 2024 income information, if applicable
• A completed verification document provided by the Financial Aid Office, with the required signatures

Additional documentation may be requested to complete your financial aid file.

If your SAR contains errors, you can correct them online. If you need assistance, you may bring your SAR to the Financial Aid Office at an Orange Technical College campus for review. Corrections can be made for you if you are selected for verification. Appropriate documentation and signatures will be required.

The Federal Pell Grant allows certain education-related charges to be deferred until your aid is processed. These charges may include:

• Tuition
• Supply fees
• Insurance fees
• Books and materials for new students within the first seven days of the program
• Industry certification or licensure exams

Important: Online and hybrid programs are not eligible for Pell funding. Only classroom instructional clock hours qualify for Pell funding.

No. You must resolve any outstanding federal debt or defaulted student loans before receiving additional Federal Pell Grant funds.

You must meet specific satisfactory academic and attendance progress (SAP) requirements established in accordance with federal, state, and VA guidelines. Students must maintain both satisfactory academic and attendance progress requirements to retain financial aid eligibility. Veterans have different requirements for meeting SAP. Yes. You should contact the Financial Aid Office before withdrawing from classes to determine whether you may be responsible for any outstanding fees. A leave of absence may be an option.

If withdrawn, a Return of Title IV Funds calculation must be completed, and any outstanding fees are your responsibility.

Orange Technical College campuses operate as clock-hour schools. Once you begin your program, your financial aid award will be applied to your institutional charges based on your attendance. Attendance is especially important when your aid is disbursed.

If your financial aid award does not cover all institutional charges, the remaining balance will be your responsibility. Any funds remaining after institutional charges are paid will be issued to you as a check, which can be picked up at the Business Office.

Yes. You must reapply for financial aid each award year, which runs from July 1 through June 30.

You may request a Professional Judgment if your earnings are lower than the previous year or if you have unusual monetary expenses that you have paid. Submit your request to the Financial Aid Office at your school. The CTE Senior Administrator will review it, and, if approved, your SAR will be resubmitted to the federal government for reconsideration.

If you do not qualify for the Federal Pell Grant, you may be eligible for other state programs, such as the Florida Student Assistance Grant, Florida Work Experience Program, and Student Financial Assistance Fund (SFAF) scholarship, based on your current household income.

Household income refers to your current income, typically determined using your last three months of pay stubs. If you do not have income and live with one or both parents, your parent’s or parents’ current income will be used.

You may apply for an Installment Contract, which is a contract between the student and the Business Office. Tuition and supply fees are paid in increments according to the Business Office payment schedule. To qualify, you must demonstrate financial need by completing a FAFSA.

The Student Financial Assistance Fund (SFAF) provides scholarship funds to help students cover certain educational costs. To qualify, you must demonstrate financial need by completing a FAFSA.

Yes. If you have been awarded a scholarship from a business or community agency, you must bring the scholarship award letter to the Financial Aid Office so it can be submitted to the Business Office.

An Emergency Fund provides financial assistance to students in immediate need. An emergency is defined as a sudden, urgent, unusual, or unexpected occurrence requiring prompt action or relief. These funds are typically donated by individuals or raised through fundraisers and are limited in availability.
